• You will have to connect your router to the internet connection in your house in order for it to work. DirecTV does not have an internet connection.

• Yes, have to have Internet. You need internet service, modem and then this router to give a wifi signal. Or for use of direct tv, you can also connect Ethernet cable from direct tv to router instead of on wifi signal.
