Do you need an internet service to use this router? null

Yes; you need an active internet service provider & an internet modem in order to use this device for wifi service.

I have Cox Cable and this router works great. I really don't know how it would work or if it would without an internet service. sorry I couldn't be more helpful. But I am very pleased with the performance of this router.

If you are setting up a LAN you do not need internet service to use this router.
