Generally speaking, yes. Remember that the extender will only provide as good a signal as -it- receives so check with your laptop at various distances from the router (wifi access point) toward the garage. If the laptop loses signal, that's too far away to plug in the extender. You might try the half-way point (between the router and the garage) and, if you get a good signal there, plug in the extender there. That will replicate essentially the same strength signal from that point.
