“Does the motion detection work reliably enough (without unwanted motion detection), that it makes the e-mail alert system viable without a lot of false alarms? I tried another brand and insects or day-to-night transition would trigger alerts.”

No motion detection will work as you are wanting. Think about it. If there is motion it is going to trigger no matter what it is. No matter what brand etc. It is the nature of the beast.
