That is correct. You can back up your recordings to a separate drive by plugging an external drive into the USB port on the device. You can always contact Night Owl Technical Support for additional information. Please refer to the product manual. Thanks for choosing Night Owl Security Products.

It overwrites when it fills, if you need more space you can download or move older recordings to a computer or other device. I have not tried it but I believe you can place a USB drive on the device and relocate recordings that way as well.
