It has no zoom, it's a prime lens, meaning it's only at 35mm. On a Nikon DX camera it's right around 52mm, which means what you see with your eye will look the same distance as what you see through the lens. You will need to move closer to / further away from your subject to change the view. It will work fine with a D-5000. It's a great lens!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The 35mm is a fixed focal length lens. It doesn't zoom. Since the D5000 is an APS-C with a crop factor of 1.5, it'll have an effective focal range / perspective 52.5mm on a standard 35mm sensor (full frame).
