35mm focal length
Excellent for shooting landscapes, architecture, group shots, travel shots and more.

My new favorite night lens.
||Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.I took the photo below with this lens. Actually this image was made from 53, 5 sec shots taken with this lens on a Nikon D5100 at 3200 ISO and then stacked using registax6. This was from a fixed tripod (no tracking) and likely could be better if I had used any kind of focus aids like a bahtinov mask. Overall I am pretty pleased. Oh, this was the night after I got the lens and the first thing I ever shot with it.

Worth the $200
||Posted .This lens is super smooth. The f/1.8 makes a really nice and creamy Bokeh. The lens is really fast, and will really take your photography skills to the next level. I originally bought this lens by itself, and returned it once I found out that they're selling it in a kit with the 85mm macro. It's weird because the first one I had made a lot of noise anytime I focused in on my subject while taking a picture, but the new one I received in my kit hasn't made any noise at all. My recommendation is to buy this in the kit. This is a great all purpose lens, but I love using it for portraits, since it creates a beautiful blurry background. It's well worth the money, and its definitely a lens that every photographer (both new and old) should have in their bag!

One of Nikons best Primes!!
Posted .This is quite possibly one of the if not THE best lenses you can buy for your low range Nikons (like your D40's), and even for the semi-pro and pro D series, it is still awesome (there are better non internal motor primes for those like the 50mm AF 1.4) But seriously, for $200, you can not buy a better lens period. These have now become harder to find and the prices will be going up (most places they have) if your lucky enough to actually find one at a BB for $200, BUY IT NOW. Sharpness: Awesome Bokeh: For its price, ok, but much better out there Ease of use: Seriously? Value: People will end up paying twice as much for this in the future.

Great little lens
||Posted .I wanted a fixed lens strictly portraits and low lighting situations for a reasonable price. after doing my research and reading reviews I chose this one. I am very pleased with my decision. I attached pictures so you can judge for yourself. I have a Nikon D90 that i’ve Been using for 10 years.

Great for indoors with limited space
Posted .I had previously bought and frequently used the NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G lens and was in love with it. The bokeh and clarity are what you expect of a much more expensive lens. But I found that I was having trouble when taking candid snapshots indoors. If you are in a small or crowded room, It's hard to get your shot just right with a 50mm lens. That's when I did my research and found the 35mm f/1.8G. After reading many reviews and looking at numerous sample photos taken with this outstanding little lens, I decided to pay the cheap price of $199.99 and try it for myself. I was not let down! Whether you are a pro or a beginner, this is an easy to use and good quality lens. It is light, and doesn't take up much room in a bag at all. I am looking forward to trying it in a low lit situation as so many people have raved about. You will not be disappointed with this purchase.

great wide angle lens
||Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Would give the lens 5 stars, but when shooting astrophotography taking the camera out of autofocus, the lens loses focus. I had to tape the focus in place.

Q: Questionwhat is the maximum optical zoom it can give and whether it will fit with D-5000 DSLR
Asked by ANAND.
- A:Answer It has no zoom, it's a prime lens, meaning it's only at 35mm. On a Nikon DX camera it's right around 52mm, which means what you see with your eye will look the same distance as what you see through the lens. You will need to move closer to / further away from your subject to change the view. It will work fine with a D-5000. It's a great lens!

Q: Questionwill this work on a D3100will this work on a D3100
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer The question you really want to ask is, will this lens autofocus on a D3100. Yes, it is a AF-S lens with a built-in motor. It will autofocus on cameras without motors, such as the D3100.

Q: QuestionIs this Prime Lens better or the Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8D. Which one?Is this Prime Lens better or the Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8D. Which one? I have a D7000 with 18-200mm VRII lens. Its a great lens but I am missing the regular fast prime for the indoor and night outdoor landscapes. I am confused on choosing the DX lens 35mm f/1.8 or the FX lens 50mm f/1.8D. The autofocus would work on both as D7000 does have the in built AF motor. Please suggest.
Asked by Saint.
- A:Answer I have the D7000 with the 50mm f/1.8 and a variety of other lenses. Most of my shooting is outdoors, but when I go inside the 50mm goes on. It is an amazing lens, but there are times in small rooms where I would like to have the wider 35mm. It depends on how you shoot. I looked at my EXIF information on several photos to see which range I use most often before I made my purchase, and I would recommend you do the same. The bokeh on the 50mm is beautiful, but the 35mm can be less than flattering with certain background lighting. Do a little more research on the web before buying either.

Q: QuestionIS THIS LENS AN AUTO FOCUS LENS??? I HAVE A 50MM 1.8 LENS NOW, AND IT IS NOT AUTO FOCUS.....I DEF. WANT AN AUTO FOCUS LENS!
Asked by MINDY.
- A:Answer Yes, and you're not clear with your question either: you may have an autofocus lens already, but one which only autofocuses on the more expensive cameras (an AF or AF-D lens), this is an AF-S G series lens which will autofocus on many, but not all autofocus film cameras, and will focus just fine on all digital.

Q: QuestionWill this lens work for pictures of the night sky?
Asked by Grumpyd.
- A:Answer Aside from having a lens, like the 35mm f/1.8 with it's wide open aperture, you would need to make sure the DSLR you are using has excellent high ISO capability. So, to answer your direct question, yes, given the lens' ability to open up to an aperture of f/1.8, this lens is an excellent for pictures of the night sky. Taking it one step further, in addition to this lens, it would be ideal that your Nikon DSLR has a Long Exposure Noise Reduction Mode. With pictures of the night sky, you will keep you shutter open for more than a single second, in some instances. Setting the camera to Long Exposure Noise Reduction Mode, reduces the inherent noise that could be present when leaving the shutter open for extended periods to record longer time exposures, such as Night Sky.

Asked by stephanie.
- A:Answer Yes, this lens is compatible with the D5100. This lens is perfect for low-light conditions, travel, environmental portrait and general photography.
