The RF70-200mm F4 L IS USM is a telephoto zoom lens delivering impressive image quality along with superb mobility as our shortest and lightest 70-200mm f/4 lens to date. Designed for the EOS R System, this lens takes advantage of the large diameter mount and short back focus distance of the RF mount to maintain high image quality while being more compact and portable so you’ll be even more inclined to take it with you on your travels. Results are stunning thanks to 4 UD lenses which help correct chromatic aberration and keep colors vivid, reduced ghosting provided by Air-Sphere Coating (ASC), and Optical Image Stabilization* plus coordinated Optical Image Stabilizer and In-Body Image Stabilizer** for amazingly clear, crisp images at slow shutter speeds and smooth video footage. There’s also dual Nano USMs contributing to a short minimum focusing distance and high-speed autofocus for still shooting and near-silent, smooth autofocus during movie shooting. These features and more, combined with the confidence to shoot in almost any condition with dust- and weather resistant seals and fluorine coating, make the RF70-200mm F4 L IS USM lens a solid performer for any situation.

This was my first "L" lens for the Canon EOS R. I've been wanting a telephoto lens with a little bit of reach and settled on this 70-200mm RF lens. I decided to go with the RF because I feel as if the RF mount is the future in the Canon line. This is the f/4 so not as fast, but it is a constant aperture through the entire focal length. I usually use this in bright/daylight conditions, but let me tell you, this lens is super sharp, the colors are great, and lightweight. It balances well on the camera body. I know a few people complain about the lens being external zoom, but it doesn't sway my decision. I've taken pictures with this lens in windy beach conditions with sand flying in my face, through dusty, smoky, and foggy conditions, and this lens has held up well. It is water/weather resistant, and have taken it to the lake and the dog park with muddy water splashed on it, and still looks good as new. I would suggest picking up this lens if you have an RF mount, looking for a medium telephoto with the 70-200mm focal length, don't care about having fast aperture, want a sharp lens, and want to save some money compared to the f/2.8. You can save some more money getting a used EF mount version, but I think the RF is definitely worth the money. Pictures below.

I recently purchased the RF 24-70mm F2.8 L series lens for my R6ii and have had such amazing results I wanted to add the 70-200mm. I went with the F4 because I don’t need the 2.8 and couldn’t justify the huge difference in price. The results are as sharp as the 24-70 F2.8. I can’t tell the difference between the two with shots taken at 70mm. It’s much lighter than I expected and I find myself using it more than thought I would.
