Yes and No. It will work on the D3300, and work well. However, with a reproduction ratio of 1:6, it is not a macro lens. Try either the 85 Micro-Nikkor or the 105 Micro-Nikkor: both are outstanding... Actually, Nikon may still be running the Photog Kit (85mm micro-nikkor, 35mm f/1.8 * this lens *, and a Craftsy photo workshop) at a reduced cost. Check into it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can get fairly close with this lens it will focus up to/down to about a foot, 12". It is not specifically a macro lens and to get closer you will have to crop into the image in post production. Nikon does however offer a specific macro lens it's a 40mm and focuses down to 6". http://www.bestbuy.com/site/nikon-af-s-dx-micro-nikkor-40mm-f-2-8g-macro-lens-black/3187077.p?id=1218384138299&skuId=3187077 If you need the lens specifically for Macro it's worth the extra money, and you can still of course take regular pictures with it as well but when one gets a Macro lens it's best suited for Macro photography! Hope that helped, good luck!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you can use it to take macro pictures of gemstones. I use it to photograph very detailed flower interiors to capture parts of the plant that are only a few millimeters across. However, if you want to take an even better picture (without breaking the bank) you'll want to look into the AF-S DX Micro-NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G. While more limited in use (only close-up work) it takes in more light at a lower ISO and generally produces crisp, vibrant macro shots.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It will work on a D3300. DX series are designed for APS-C Nikons. As for macro, if that is your primary use for the lens you may want to consider one of Nikon's macro specific lenses, or something a little less wide, like a 50 or 85mm lens. If this is your walkarouns lens and you just want to do some macros you may be ok.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Probably not /: I've tried to take a few macro shots and they don't turn out as well as I'd hoped, since there has to be a certain distance from the camera for the subject to focus. It'll definitely work on the d3300, and it's an absolutely amazing lens! But just not for macro photography.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. As with any DSLR, the lens that you have attached to the camera is the most important part of your specific question regarding Macros. Wit the 35mm f/1.8 - the camera has a minimum focus distance of approximately 1 foot. The 35mm is 100% compatible with the D3300. If you want to get a 1:1 reproduction ratio - you might want to consider the 85mm Micro-NIKKOR - also available at Best Buy.
