• I have used 2 other en-el20 brand batteries in the camera with no issues. Note: The first thing I did was upload the latest firmware version when I bought the camera. But I am not saying that is needed. Just so you know what version firmware I was using. It read the info from batteries without issue

• Yes, the two batteries are interchangeable. The difference is in the mAh ratings

• Yes, the EN-EL20 is compatible in the Coolpix 1000. It may give you a little less time for taking pictures.
