If you're looking at the P1000 chances are you're already familiar with it's zoom capabilities. It has the largest zoom range of any digital camera on the market and works equally well for 4K video. The mic input means super high audio quality for your videos. This can be the ONE camera that works for all occasions- from portraits to wildlife- this camera can do it all. The downsides are it's small sensor. It is not well suited for low light photography or video and will not produce those beautiful 'out of focus' backgrounds many people prefer. If wildlife is your passion and you typically shoot in good lighting this camera's zoom will produce nice images. It can't beat a large sensor camera in outright image quality but it will capture subjects other cameras simply cannot. So if catching that hawk up a tree eating a squirrel is your type of photography- this camera is great for that type of telephoto video/photography work. The camera is a bit large and moderately heavy but definitely lighter than any interchangeable camera with a long zoom lens. So if you're looking for that ultra-zoom lens camera for extreme telephoto videography or photography- this is the camera for you! Just be aware it's aimed at long range shooting and will not produce amazing images for close-up photography like events or portraits- there are better choices for that type of photography. The P1000 is the 'wildlife' photographers dream for static subjects in good lighting. When I'm walking around with my P1000 I know there's nothing I cannot shoot with this camera- it's a good all-around camera solution if you can only have 1 camera. (I've included 2 sample shots of wild iguanas in Florida taken with my P1000)

Stepping from from a D-80, This thing is absolutely stellar! It’s fast, handles low light WAY better than the reviews I’ve read. Zooms in to the stars as well as my 8” 1200mm Dobsonian telescope! Bird mode is sick I’m so glad I finally tried it too! Nothing but great things to say here, it doesn’t feel cheap or point and shootish at all. Wirelessly xferred all pics to the iPhone with no problem. Could use another battery but that’s not because of bad life, just heavy usage.

As a serious photographer for over 40 years, this is one of the most versatile cameras I have ever used. Not only is the 125X optical zoom a remarkable feat of engineering, but the built in image stabilization allows for AMAZING zoom photos when using the full 3000mm equivalent (not to mention you can take that 4X digitally zoomed, and with 16-megapixel resolution, you can read license plated from 2 miles away!!) If you are an experienced photographer, you can probably use the full zoom and still be hand-held, though well braced. Otherwise, use a monopod. Have taken great bird shots with this camera, and even though there is limited flexibility with aperture control, the shutter speed and ISO control gives you an incredible range of options with creativity. The camera allows you to take amazing macro photos from 15-20 feet away! Allows the user to shoot in traditional "safe" JPEG formats, or for more advanced users who want to have more control, you can shoot in RAW. An unexpected surprise is the amazing 4K video taken with this camera. You can zoom in/out whilst shooting video, take high speed slo-motion and time lapse video. The NIKON suite of photo software is comparable to PhotoShop in its applications. You can use the Nikon app with any IOS or Android smartphone to remotely control the camera, in addition to downloading all your files. Whilst a tad on the heavy side due to the lens, it is VERY well balanced, and fits comfortably i your hand. Controls are easy to use, and the flip around viewfinder allows you to shoot over your head, or any other position that would be VERY awkward otherwise, and still see the full image! LOVE the camera - you will too!

Great camera. Powerful - 125x Zoom. Very heavy (3 pounds), a bit challenging to carry around. I like the Wi-Fi ability to shoot pictures remotely and to have the pictures immediately downloaded to my phone. There are two buttons toward the top to be careful with. One is the manual versus automatic focus. If you’re not careful, you can accidentally switch from one to the other. The other button turns the screen blank and turns on the viewfinder.

Bought this for our Alaska Cruise. Was the perfect camera. Captured sharp well exposed pictures. At 3000mm I was able to capture Caribou, Whales, Bear and Eagles with no problem from the ship. Would buy this 10 times over. Highly recommend. Notice the picture of the mountain it’s the same peak in both.

    The King of Super Zooms

I only really bought the camera due to its super zoom and upgraded features. I had a Sony DSC-H400 for a few years and while it was a 20.1 Megapixels, it was simply getting too dated for image processing and color balance. This P1000 was definitely a splurge and while I definitely could have lived with the P950 for $200 cheaper, the extra reach of the zoom is worth the price. Just be prepared to learn how to use this beast as image stabilization with a moving target isnt ready to go out of the box and a brand new battery ran be about 220 shots with generous amounts of zoom.... just prepare to pick up more batteries.

    Outrageous 3,000mm Zoom

I’m liking the purchase so far. Still early but it is living up to my expectations. It is large and has some weight but not bad for what you get. My old telephoto lens 80-200 gives 300mm but can’t compare with 3,000. Can’t wait to get out and take some wildlife shots. Have been real pleased with shots from the backyard. With the P1000 you get a whole camera for less than the cost of a Nikkor zoom lens. No brainer!

Camera has been great for birding. The zoom on it really makes it easier to get a descent shot from further out. WiFi sync works like a charm while shooting so it eliminates the arduous task of transferring photos. The only caveat is that for the faster moving objects this camera struggles to track and shoot accurately. Photos show just how awesome that zoom is

Everything at a very convenient price. Don’t worry about changing lenses, this 120X 3000mm is amazing. I took amazing pictures of the moon, wild life and I am waiting for the right positioning of Jupiter and Saturn to take pictures.

I have had this camera a month now and am somewhat disappointed. I bought it for hiking and wildlife due to the zoom. The Camera seems slow to respond. I have already missed numerous shots because it's slow response time. It is also slow to respond to zooming in and out. It is somewhat difficult to get a clear shot because the camera takes long to focus. When zoom is all the way out it is front heavy. You have to use a tripod to possibly get a clear shot from more than 2000m away. The picture quality isn't great either. Battery life is not good especially if you are doing video. I am still unsure and may end up taking it back. Love my regular Nikon much better. If it wasn't for the long zoom I wouldn't buy this camera. I would recommend it for the long zoom but keep in mind the quality of the picture is nothing like a regular Nikon. It's more like a phone camera. This is my honest opinion.

I've shot video and photos for 30 years this may be one of the best cameras I've ever used. One lens does it all. Only issue is lag time when shooting multi picks. This camera at 1k is a bargain it would take 3 or more lanes to do what this camera can do that is 3k-5k the savings. Mt. Rushmore.
