It's physics, the small sensor size is due to the compact size of the lens in relative terms. if you were to use a 1-Inch sensor the 3000mm lens would be the size of a truck! Luckily, the science and advancements in sensor technologies and the light sensitivity of the small sensors are so good anymore that most people will not see the difference and it will only suffer in low light conditions. I shoot hobby nd pro and have cameras from Sony, Nikon, Canon and etc., I have both Nikon mega zooms the P900 and P1000 and they're both great general purpose cameras to carry when your not in the mood to carry your entire bag of gear with many different lenses. Is this a camera you could shoot pro with? No, but I have obtained some great images that I could not even think of getting even with my large 600mm Zooms for my Nikon which btw are huge lenses which require a separate case to carry them. So why the small sensor? It makes a 3000mm zoom possible on a general purpose camera that shoots outstanding photos compared to even the best pro gear a decade ago.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is because for a bigger sensor, you would need a friggin larger and heavier zoom lense that may break your shoulder. Price will also be tenfold more expensive
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If it were a larger sensor it will not be 3000mm on the long end and it will cost more than $1000. Although the sensor is small the pictures are good.
