You need q comparable player like mxplayer pro with the neon codec available in the playstore

It will play just fine. However, you will have to make sure that audio passthrough is enabled in settings. If you plan to use Kodi, you will have to enable passthrough under the sound settings in Kodi and enable all of the passthrough format options.

It will be solely dependent on the app that you use. You might have to sideload different builds of your apps to meet this requirement. On a side note Amazon Video is built into the OS and can not be replaced without rooting the box. To date I have not heard anything positive on rooting a Shield. A fly mouse with a keyboard would be a plus.
