Works great with plex. Direct play easily even 4k content so your server doesnt need to transcode anything.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes that is the only reason I got it. I am used to setting Plex up on a PC. The Shield is not as quick but works fine. One odd thing was it uses Plex ONLY as a server. On the Shield itself you use the native "Live TV" app to watch and record. It has a very good Program Guide. It must be using Plex since it wouldn't record until Plex was setup. It could also be using the HD Homerun app but I have no idea. On other devices, Plex works like Plex Media Player with the normal tuner, program guide, and recordings. It was much more difficult to setup than a PC. I used HD Homerun as my tuner box and I had to use a PC to interface with Myplex.com to setup the Live TV. It would not let me do that on a phone or tablet. Also the Plex did not stream live TV well with a wi-fi connection even though it was 802.11AC unless the stream was converted to smaller H.264, so the 4 tuner HD Homerun that uses Mpeg-2 would not work. The HD Homerun Extend works fine since it transcodes. If you are not trying to stream live TV and just your library, Plex will convert or transcode video. Not sure if the Nvidia is powerful enough to do that well. Yes Plex runs smoothly remotely but is slower loading channels I believe mostly due to wi-fi. Once a program is streaming we have zero buffering.
