“I've heard reports that the headset is not the same quality as the earlier bundle. Is this true? I was hoping that Oculus would be a "stand up" company. If they try to push a reduced quality product they are in for rude awakening.”

The quality is excellent. I've had zero problems. You will not be disappointed.

I believe only the Vive has had a weight reduction of 15% earlier this year to their model. Just from my time that I had a DK2 unit and this one which I just got it is hands down better. The head mount is more comfortable, it feels cooler on the face and the lenses are much better quality than before IMO.
