This is how it should be connected. Your dish hopper should have an HDMI cable connecting it directly to one of the inputs on the receiver. Preferably the input labeled “CBL/SAT.” Now connect the television to the HDMI output on the receiver. Although I suspect you wired your hopper right to the TV and are using your AV receiver in a configuration more similar to that of sound bar. Which, don’t get me wrong, will work just fine as well. If that’s how you have it connected and you aren’t getting any audio to the receiver, then it’s probably because you need to go into the television setup and change the audio output to the peripheral device perhaps. Although with the ARC it doesn’t usually require you to do that I don’t think. Anyways if that doesn’t work, just connect everything like I mentioned up above in the first paragraph and it should work perfectly.
