“Im installing a new head unit with an internal amp, new speakers, and a subwoofer with an amp. i do not have a factory amp in my car. since im replacing my head unit, would i need this in my setup?”

You would not need this line output converter when using an aftermarket radio. Your new radio will provide the RCA outputs needed for adding amplifiers. You would use this to add RCA connections a factory radio that did not have any.
