“We already have voicemail service with our phone company. Can the answering device on this phone be deactivated? I've had problems where the answering device on our current phone system interfered with the voicemail service.”

Yes, you can disable the answering system on the phone, I use ITP VoIP and have no issues. You can also have it activate a flahing light on the top of the handset if you have a message from your phone service which one of the reasons why I bought it.
