Great Phone Set, But NOT for the "Techniphobe"

As many have previously described, this phone is NOT for the "techniphobe" or faint of heart. There is much programming and referencing the Owners Manual during the initial setup. You will also need to keep the Owners Manual handy, as there may be times that you want to change some settings. Unlike other less functional phones, this one does not have an easy to use menu system to select and deselect options. Instead you must enter specific codes, listed only in the manual, to change the options (i.e., programming the phone). That said, this phone is feature rich. I have had other Panasonic phones in the past, including my last ones which were also DECT 6.0 (KX-TG9333), and this compares very well. I had to replace the previous set, as I am now working solely out of my home office, and needed a corded phone with speaker phone option so I would not be reliant on a battery powered handset that lasted only an hour or so per charge. (I was constantly on conference calls, using the speakerphone portion of the older handsets, and having to use two or three handsets to get through the day.) An added bonus of this phone was the ability to also pair a Bluetooth headset to the base, which also gives clarity (compared to the speakerphone) to the conference calls as well as cordless convenience. Once paired, switching from the Bluetooth headset and base unit is as easy as pressing a button on the base to use the speakerphone (or headset) or simply picking up the corded handset. Calls sound as good as I would expect. The corded and cordless handsets are great. The speakerphone quality depends on how close the speaking person is to the phone (base or cordless handset), yet it is very good for the most part; I would not expect anything different in a phone kit in this price range. One thing to note about the base unit speakerphone: The mic is hidden on the underside of the base, just to the right of the speakerphone button (refer to #6 on page 12 of the owners manual); this area must not be blocked or else the mic will be useless. Not exactly the best location for the mic. I am currently using this phone with Vonage as my VoIP provider. I get notified when there are messages awaiting to be heard in the Vonage phonemail on the base unit and cordless handset screens. Programming the Vonage phonemail access number was not difficult (it was more difficult finding the number in the first place, as I had forgotten what it was -- "*123"), so now I can access my mailbox with a single button press when there are messages. I cannot talk to the pairing of cell phones to the base/handsets, as that function is not one I plan to use. But it does look interesting for some people. Although Panasonic specifies using two (2) AAA NiMH batteries as optional in the base, I highly recommend using them, as they will be used during a power outage, giving the phone up to 7 hours of use (depending on power saving mode set). I also am unsure if the settings would be preserved during a prolonged power outage without the backup batteries.

My set has 3 cordless handsets along with chargers plus the base set with cord in the home office. Phone worked right out of the box, headsets took about 16-18 hours to charge. It works perfect for me, 3 chargers are placed in prominent, yet inconspicous areas. The handsets are not always left on chargers to preserve rechargeable batteries. Take note, remove them when fully charged, sometimes a completely dead battery can take half a day or more to fully recharge. Headsets have worked up to 3+ hours talk time, 2-3 days standby. I deplete the battery and always have another set within reach. Cell phone connection works well, that's able to sit in a spot with an optimal signal then connect to home phone system. My property is just shy of an acre and the cordless signal starts to break up around the perimeter. I can ride the mower and accept calls. Phone is easy to set up, read the instructions, know your menu functions and familiarize yourself with buttons, such as "select" and "back" while in the various menus. The buttons are starting to show some wear on certain handsets, oh well. It does have some "tinny" sounds during calls, that could be external wiring and interference from it. A separate, regular corded handset in the house has similar issues at times. I won't knock the phone for clicks and hollow sounds when it could be the line, a phone tap. Sometimes connections are not always perfect on every single phone, landline or wireless, you live with it. This Panasonic phone has served it's purpose and outlasted my AT&T model. It came with an offer from the phone company. Previous Panasonic experience brought me back. Around twenty years ago I paid about $30 for a single, Panasonic cordless headset without caller ID. That phone lasted at least 8 years with two battery replacements. I could walk and talk nearly a block on that model. Eventually the battery was not available anymore. Unfortunately the phone had to be recycled. This particular model is aging and I hope the replacement Panasonic makes in the future is the same quality. Cordless handsets are light and I've dropped a few on wood, tile or concrete, they are all still working. A suggestion would be to offer a model with buttons on the corded handset piece instead of on the base. Save the footprint. Integrate the answering machine functions into the base menu screen. Just my two cents, otherwise you can't go wrong with this one.

Bought for my 88 yr old mother who is hard of hearing and technophobic. She manages handsets well and finds volume audible. The build quality is very good, the handsets heavy enough but not too heavy, and ergonometric; no cheap fake metal work. Readout on main console is clear, set up menu easy (I did set-up). Reception excellent even for the second hands-free handset, which we keep in a bedroom that is about17 yards from the master console. Like the fact that main console has conventional rather than hands free handset as it feels familiar to her, but she finds the hands free extra handsets reasonably easy to use. The answerphone 'feature is convenient and well-designed; great that there is an actual Erase button so that she doesn't need to figure out modes or commands. Note: Best Buy online was showing lower price but in-store sales person price-matched for me, then discovered Amazon had lower price, so the saleswoman graciously matched that. Even at full price this had better build quality and design than nearest competitor brand, and its features were more in keeping with what I wanted. Bought your excellent extended warranty. Always prefer buying item like this from your store, as can actually see the goods before buying and ask questions, and it is reassuring to be able to bring to a physical store if there is a problem. Your sales personnel always helpful.

    Panasonic Phones Are Really Good

This is like my 3rd Panasonic wireless phone purchase in 8 years or so. One thing I do not do ( Unlike Most People ) Is read the "Owners Manual" and that also goes for when I buy a new car like my M3. I like to figure it out and I do it fast. Moving on and not a moment too soon :) This phone is really good and I just did the Bluetooth connection to my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 that I got from Best Buy and I can transfer from the cell to my home phone. New technology and it's kinda cool. I don't want to hold up a cell phone of any kind as it sends out waves that are inconclusive but they sure are studying how much holding a smart cell phone to your ear for an hour or more does to brain waves and it's long term effects on the human mind/brain. Bottom line this phone hands down for the money is amazing. Anyone who does not give it 5 Stars is lacking in knowledge on how to operate it. As far as the person who mentioned the 20 feet away and it loses connection or reception....Really?? I went across to my pool and then into the clubhouse which is 150 feet away and I get my phone calls there. Even on my 5 year old Panasonic I got reception there too. I am assuming some people live under a rock and or they live out where there is a tremendous amount of waves going through their neighbors homes, walls, etc. This phone does what it says it does and does it well. If you are a smart person this phone will work for you and will work for a long time. If Best Buy offered me a 5 year FREE warranty on it I'd turn it down. Never does anything on any Panasonic item I have ever bought for the last 30 years have I had a problem. The only thing that needs replacing after a lot of use is the rechargeable batteries and that goes for any manufacturer. Buy it and you shouldn't have any regrets. Solid phone(s) for sure.

    GREAT Phone!

I totally LOVE this phone! I needed a corded for the office, plus a new cordless in the kitchen. This more than met my needs! I got an AT&T one first, which had an issue with one of the handsets. Best Buy did my return in about 60 seconds! I found this one in the store and there is NO COMPARISON to the AT&T. This one has BIG letters/numbers on the digital readout of the desk/corded phone. I love that. And it stores 3000 numbers in the phone book, compared to 50 in the AT&T. The buttons are easier to push and I am in LOVE with the "call block" button (telemarketers). It's super easy to figure out how to set everything, as a matter of fact my 80+ yr old friend saw this phone and wants one for herself! The sound on the handsets is clear. I also like the 'silent' mode from late night until early morning. I wish it had a longer base-to-receiver curly cord, but I can use a different one. So far, this phone has exceeded every need in my home. Panasonic gets an A+ on this one.

I have little choice but to return this unit. I was looking for a desktop phone/answering machine to replace our old one that died. This was one of the only choices on the shelf at the local Best Buy. The answering machine portion worked fine at answering the phone and taking messages, but not for making or receiving calls. The sound was so distorted with the speakerphone, corded receiver, and remote handsets that I asked some callers to call back on my cell phone so I could understand them. I called my sister today and she asked if something was wrong with my phone because the sound quality was bad. That was the last straw. I have had it for a week or two hoping it would be okay but it's silly to ask people to call back on my cell phone, especially those that I don't want to have that number. Now I have to search for a different brand. Ugh.

    Duplex Speakerphone Was My Key

We talk to our kids frequently, and always use the speakerphone. Most consumer phones only allow one party to speak at a time, which results in frequent missed words and confusion. With duplex, the conversation is much more normal, which is why it is common in business telephones. VTech promotes this feature for consumers, but Panasonic does not. When I found it almost by accident, I went with Panasonic because they are so often the top rated units. So far so good. The duplex speakerphones on both the corded unit and wireless handsets work perfectly, and we love a lot of the other features also, especially call blocking and the intercom. My only negative so far is the lack of a backlight on the display when the phone is not in use, but that's not much of an annoyance. I definitely would buy again.

I love this new Panasonic phone system for my house! It was easy to set up and has many features, a great one being that it connects to my cell phone. So, when the phone rings, even if I'm not by my cell, I can reach for the Panasonic handset and answer my call! Also, all my cell contacts easily downloaded to the home unit! It's got a larger screen to read for caller ID and the ring volume is loud enough for my hearing impaired daughter to hear. It also has a nice speaker phone feature that she can use, too. The unit came with the base unit (corded) and 2 additional cordless units. Both cordless units have the speaker phone button. You're also able to purchase more cordless units to add to your system, but for my family, the 3 total units are all that we need. I'm 100% satisfied with this phone!

    Great Landline Phone

This phone is great. I like having a wired landline phone and the convenience of 2 handsets that I can take outside or if I need to talk to someone about troubleshooting an item where I need to be near the product I'm having problems. Also like the talking caller id so that I don't have to stop what I'm doing to see who's calling and if I want to answer or let it go to the voice message. I bought a second set (1 for upstairs and 1 for downstairs) because for certain calls I prefer the wired landline for more privacy. Also in the future, if I wish to, I can add another 3 headsets to each phone system. I also like that the handsets take regular batteries instead of a battery pack for the inexpensive cost of replacing batteries if needed.

This is a piece of junk.I've had other panasonic cordless phones that were great back in the 90's,but, today's phones fail by comparison. It is very hard to set up. volume is too low, there is no volume control.the speakerphone is junk, very tinny sounding, sounds like people are talking through tin cans with a string. also thin sounding at the other end unless you get right on top of it and yell or talk very loud, but, then it still sounds tinny. I sent this back to Walmart and I bought the AT&T CL84207 from Best Buy,it has smart call blocker that makes the caller record their name and press the pound key before the phone will ring. The Panasonic doesn't have that feature, the phone rings and you have to answer it then press the call block button. The AT&T CL84207 is so much easier to use and set up than the Panasonic.Don't waste your money on this phone, you'l be sorry you did.

Bought this unit to replace a similar 5-year-old unit. Sound is crisp and clean. Wireless extensions easily reach the home unit from anywhere in my 2000 square foot house and the front yard. Bright, easy-to-read display screens. The answering machine is flawless and the notifications are clear and accurate. I am withholding one star because I would like the ringer to be louder, and the voice loudness could use another db or so. ( The unit is plugged into a Verizon home phone device, and that might be part of the problem). Either one is not a show-stopper, though. We haven't tried the blue-tooth connections yet, but our needs are simple, and this phone fills the bill beautifully.

I don't remember right off hand when I purchased these so we'll say at least a month probably longer. I have no complaints with the phones. I personally don't use them much so they are not being used to their full capabilities at the moment. So far I can confirm that my main base is a corded phone and the verbal caller ID feature works with mine. I noticed that my 2 extension sets have intercom as an option on the screen of the handsets. I haven't tried using it which I will now that I'm reviewing it. I purchased this set over others specifically for the corded main base. What I haven't tried yet is to confirm weather or not the corded main base will still at least function with a dial tone when not plugged into power. If it doesn't I don't think I would dock much more than half a star so I'll give the 5. If it doesn't I will be disappointed. Hope this helps & Happy shopping!

This is the perfect phone system for people with a cellphone or two that they don't want to carry around the home. You can leave the cellphone on charge and answer your calls using the portable phones. You can also conference an incoming call with people you are talking to using your landline. The phones have good fidelity and they have a speakerphone feature for hands-free conversations. The system uses NiMH AAA batteries which are rechargeable and reasonably priced to replace when they wear out. I wish six batteries were included instead of the four included in the package. The base unit used two batteries as a backup power source. This is why I gave four instead of five stars.

We needed a home phone for teleworking; specifically one with bluetooth capability. While the information on the box wasn't entirely clear, and although the Best Buy employee was even less helpful, we took a chance and purchased this phone. Now we are very happy we did! It was very easy to setup the phone and connect the bluetooth headset. For bluetooth we are using a 66 Audio BTS+ headset. For those who don't know, this is a high quality wireless sports headset. Considering the cost of some wireless headsets designed for home phone use, we were pleasantly surprised how well this phone system integrated with the BTS+. The call quality is very good, and we have had no connection issues, even 40 feet away and through walls.

I purchased this because I work out of a home office, but do not want to have two different numbers coming in the house - one in the office and one elsewhere. So I needed at least one extra handset for personal calls. I also needed other features such as a phone directory, call block, and an easily readable screen, even on the handsets, This was definitely a plug and play...I plugged in the two recharging bases, put the phone line into the main unit, and that was it. These charged up over night and I was using this system, with no problems, the very next morning.

Wanted to have a corded phone plus an additional cordless phone that would work off the corded phone to eliminate phone line. I knew we wanted to stay with Panasonic as we are happy with our previous Panasonic cordless phone and also wanted to be able to use regular rechargeable batteries instead of the battery packs that the other brands require. Very happy with purchase and love the "Call Block" feature. Haven't used the intercom feature yet but can come in handy. We did purchase a longer coil cord for the corded phone so we can reach further than with the one that comes with the phone. Would totally recommend this phone for anyone who wants a corded and a cordless system.

I purchased this phone the other night and the calls are clear. I really like the large tilt-able lcd display on the base which allows me to see who's calling with ease. Transferring phone numbers from my cell to the phone is a breeze with the built in Bluetooth. Just pair your cell up to it and download your contacts into it. I really love the call block feature that gives blanket coverage to anonymous callers eliminating the hassle of having to hear their annoying messages. Panasonic is the only phone company that seems to get the message that we need call block in our telephone. I wish that their call block capacity were higher but 250 is the best I've seen yet on a telephone.

Short and sweet. Found the item on line. Confirmed it was in the store. NO ONE COULD LOCATE IT. While waiting we found the item mis-shelfed. Price on line was different (lower price) than the store scan at check out. NO ONE COULD verify or override to match advertised price. We are patient than most but very frustrating and obviously no training. Great product. Poor customer service knowledge in-store. Everyone (electronic stores, car dealer, insurance agent) can sell the same item it's who you want to do business with. As Best buy true customer very disappointing. Only question is why this happened for a standard purchase. Just saying...

Excellent corded-cordless combination, with two cordless handsets. Sound quality: very good Range: very good Can pair with two mobile phones - a convenient feature. Equally important is its ability to pair with a Bluetooth head phone - great hands-free feature. The base as well as the cordless handsets have speaker phones - another very practical feature. Many features and instructions can be complicated for a non-techie. One can ignore some of those features. However, pairing cell phones and Bluetooth is easy for anyone with even a basic knowledge of technology.
