Hi Jeanne, thank you for your inquiries. 1. It sounds like you are subscribed to voicemail via your provider, in which you will have to retrieve your messages from your mailbox. 2. Yes, you may turn off your answering machine off. 3. If you do not have an designated wall jack to plug the phone into, it will need to be connected to your modem.
