Yes with the Linked to Cell feature you can use the telephone without a traditional landline.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'll answer my own question. I returned Th KX TGD560 when I learned that AT&T wireless landline wiring is a different technology than AT&T standard traditional landline. The phone is not for the wireless line. Apparently no one sells phones for AT&T wireless lines, including AT&T, because that technology is being abandoned. We found a phone online that is for wireless and ordered one. However, I'm not sure if we (or the seller) are clear about the difference between having wireless handsets (a very common handset technology) and having wireless landline wiring, so we will see if it works when it arrives. I didn't know about the two types of lines, wireless landline and standard traditional, and haven't talked to anyone who knows about it (though I"m sure many geeks do know). Salespeople at AT&T store (cellular sales) or at Best Buy knew nothing of any help --- thus they sold us a phone that we couldn't use. We spent a week getting to where we are now, awaiting the phone we purchased online, and I took valuable hours from my busy job for the project of getting the phone to work. This for my elderly neighbor that I am helping to save her $23/mo service because she cannot afford $50 for cellular and can't handle the confusion of the cell phone.
