Hello. Yes, the display will light up when the handset is picked up and it will show the name of the caller. Also, when a new message comes in, the message indicator on the base unit will flash. Hope this helps! -C

Yes, as long as you have caller id, it shows phone # & info clearly. As far as the base, has a large zero or displays the number of messages. I like mine very much, doesn't even ring if the call is a robocall. The only thing is on the call waiting. It lets me know one is pending, but doesn't show number or info. And yes I have both caller id & call waiting.
