“Does the switch have to be on for the light to work? I have a group of four lights in the living room, and will like to switch one fir a hue bulb.”

All the lights on the same switch would need to be on for the wireless controls to work properly.

Yes, the switch does have to be on in order for the system to recognize the bulb and be able to control it. Hope this helps. Thanks, Dave

Yes the switch needs to be on or there would be no electricity to the socket.

Yes. But you can control the bulbs individually—if all four were hue bulbs you could then control them from the app.
