Hue's light-strips are not designed to be hardwired (they come with a plug adapter to plug into a wall socket). Philips Hue states that hardwiring the light strip will void the product warranty. If you do a quick internet search you can find people who have hardwired them with their own electrical knowledge, but since it's in opposition to the company's recommended use, any damage resulting from a hardwired unit would be the liability of the homeowner/renter.
