“On the back of this receiver there are eleven (11) speaker terminals. It is advertised as a 9.2 receiver. Is this so you can configure it as 5.2.4 or 7.2.2 as options? 11 speakers but only nine(9) can be powered?”

Yes only 9 powered at one time You can send the other two channels to another amplifier to get 11 or use the whole thing only as a decoder with a separate amplifier
