Yes, the new PS 4.50 update which should be released in March/April 2017 (Its in BETA right now) has the capability to attach a USB 3.0 External Storage device up to 8TB! FINALLY!!

The original ps4 does support external hard drives with the Nyko Data Bank. As of right now it is unknown as to how external hard drives will be implemented on the PS4 Pro.
