No you can you use it in manual mode all you have to do is once you power it on you press and hold down the ifit logo on the dash for 10 seconds or less and the screen powers up to manual mode.

All ProForm equipment can be used in manual mode without iFIT subscriptions. Activating your machine will register you for your free trial to iFIT, which can be canceled easily by logging into your iFIT account and changing your membership preferences. No. They take your CC details and give 1 month trial, but you can cancel before that without any charge.
