This is not the matte finish which I don't think was available when I purchased this phone. This had a glass black that is over a black body. Personally I don't like the feel of the glass back but it is pretty. I purchased a case to keep my phone in that adds texture to the back of the phone so it is more like the matte finish.

I know you are asking about the back being 2 different variants but I think it may have been a typo or mistake. The way it was written (the one option being black, on the FAQ section) made it seem like there was no other option, whatsoever. So, although I don't know for sure, it seems like it would be easier to find an answer/choice of the 2 backs if it were available? Does that make sense...check out the company website and look at the FAQ answer to "does this phone come in different color" or similar to that.
