Is this a battery back up or capacitor? null

The is no battery back up. This device must stay plugged in for it to function. There is a hard-wired kit that can be purchased as a stand alone product. If the hard-wired kit (which should be professionally installed) is used, then you will pick up on additional features such as when the engine is off, if the car shakes or someone break-in; it will start to record. If you plug it into the cigarette lighter, the additional features will not work.

Hardwire USB-C kit is a capacitor. Not a battery backup. It runs on the car battery. Camera will turn on when it picks up movement when car is turned off.

This model uses a supercapacitor.
