How far apart can the sensor and magnet be to remain effective? I have decorative trim on my door that will require the sensor to be about 5/8" - 1" apart. null

The space between the Contact Sensor and the Magnet is 1 inch or less. When you open the door or window, you see the LED flash green (and hear the chirp tone, if enabled). There needs to be ½ inch of space around the Sensor so you can slide it open to replace the batteries.

On Rings website it states the 2nd generation sensor/magnet should be no more than 1 inch apart and there needs to be ½ inch of space around the Sensor so you can slide it open to replace the batteries

Mine have to be positioned about an inch apart and they work fine.
