You just mount the operating sensor on the a flat surface and have room for it slide off the mount base to be able to change batteries. The magnetic piece has to be within less than 1/2 inch of the sensor in the window's or door's closed position. I chose to mount the sensor on the upper or top corner of the patio door (operating sensor) and the door frame (magnet piece) that is flat. The wood piece that frames the patio door is not flat but a small aluminum frame is flat and allows the magnetic piece to fit.
A:AnswerThe space between the Contact Sensor and the Magnet is 1 inch or less. When you open the door or window, you see the LED flash green (and hear the chirp tone, if enabled). There needs to be ½ inch of space around the Sensor so you can slide it open to replace the batteries.
