Yes. You can leave the settings in Home mode and go live anytime you just want to check things out on your phone app.

The alerts can be turned off. When you are in the main viewing screen of the camera, click on the gear looking symbol in the top right area. There will be an on off option for motion alerts. Motion will still be detected but you won't get alerts.

In the application, each camera has a setup. One of the switches is to turn alerts on or off. There is also a calendar to preset days that the alerts are on or off.
