Hello Penny, Great question! The Ring Outdoor Smart Plug requires a Ring Bridge to communicate properly within your Ring app. Or if you have an Amazon Echo (4th gen) or an Echo Show 10 (3rd gen) and are an advanced user of Ring technology, your ability to coordinate your Ring Smart Lighting has expanded thanks to the device’s built-in Ring Bridge. Ring Bridge is the central hub that integrates Ring Smart Lights into your Ring system. The Bridge connects to the Ring app using your home wifi network and connects to other Ring Smart Lighting products using a proprietary long-range communication protocol. Here is a helpful article that elaborates on the Ring Bridge: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025181851-Ring-Smart-Lighting-Bridge-Information. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback/experiences with Ring. We invite you to reach out at https://community.ring.com/ if any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Outdoor Smart Plug pre-purchase question. Thank you, Alexis with Ring
