  • QuestionI currently have a motion light and 2 ring doorbells and we are looking to get the smart plug for our pool heater and X-mas lights in the winter. If I already have items I use the app for, do I need the Bridge just for the smart plug?

    Asked by KendraO.

    • Answer Hello KendraO,  Great question! The Ring Outdoor Smart Plug can be used to control any standard plug-in device, such as string lights, outdoor lighting, water fountains, or other outdoor devices. A Ring Bridge is required to enable smart features and in-app controls. If you already have a Ring Bridge on your account, a second is not needed.  Keep in mind that the power output for the Ring Smart Plug is 110–120 VAC, 60 Hz, with a 15 A maximum load in total, a 1/2 HP motor, and an 1875 resistive load, so it may not power heavier load devices such as a pool heater. Here is a helpful support article with more detailed product information: https://ring.com/support/articles/td4lo/Ring-Outdoor-Smart-Plug-Information. • QuestionIs this plug 5G compatible?

    Asked by Penny.

    • Answer Hello Penny, Great question! The Ring Outdoor Smart Plug requires a Ring Bridge to communicate properly within your Ring app. Or if you have an Amazon Echo (4th gen) or an Echo Show 10 (3rd gen) and are an advanced user of Ring technology, your ability to coordinate your Ring Smart Lighting has expanded thanks to the device’s built-in Ring Bridge. Ring Bridge is the central hub that integrates Ring Smart Lights into your Ring system. The Bridge connects to the Ring app using your home wifi network and connects to other Ring Smart Lighting products using a proprietary long-range communication protocol.
