Not 24/7 only when they detect motion. You can program them to record 60, 90 and 120 seconds. If you get a subscription which is very cheap the video gets sent to the ring cloud which in return you can safe it to your device and access it whenever needed.

The live view feature will time out after roughly ten minutes as well. Snapshot Capture is an app feature that takes snapshots at certain intervals. This allows you to review what’s happened in front of your devices in between events. The images taken by the Snapshot Capture feature will be integrated into your Event Timeline along with the videos taken during motion events and Live View. That way you can scan through a single timeline and get a good overview of what’s happening around your home. Here is more information about this feature, and it's settings: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360034355652-Timeline-Security-Snapshots-Using-Snapshot-Capture. For any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out on our community forum at https://community.ring.com/. We look forward to hearing from you soon! Thank you, Alexis from Ring
