Hello mhardan. Thank you for reaching out, that is a good question. Yes, the Ring Video Doorbell (2020 Release) is designed to "see" the world through a network of three linked passive infrared (PIR) sensors. These are heat sensors that detect motion by monitoring heat within the detection area. Since people are hotter than the surrounding areas, as a person enters the detection area, the heat measurements change. The motion sensors register this change as movement and send out an alert. In addition, the PIR sensors are pointed downward to detect motion from five feet to 30 feet away, while minimizing notifications from things like traffic. Here is a help article that provide more detail around this: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360022650691-Motion-Detection-in-Ring-Battery-Devices. With regard to the video recording length, there are multiple lengths you can choose from, and they are as follows: 15 seconds. 20 seconds. 25 seconds. 30 seconds. 60 seconds. 90 seconds. or 120 seconds. Here is a help article explaining this in further detail, as well: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040293791-Adjust-the-Video-Recording-Length-on-Your-Battery-Powered-Devices.
