In wireless configuration it can be mounted anyware the wifi will reach. As long as the width of jam is 2 and 1/2 inches wide. Ive done them directly on the wooden door. No problem at all.

Yes. the camera is pretty narrow. It needs couple of small anchors so you'll have to drill either the door or the jambs. Battery operated so no cables needed.

If you are going to rely completely on the battery, then yes, you can mount it to anything you want.

I just mounted it over my old doorbell. I removed the old doorbell which was just a small button type and installed Ring doorbell over it.

Yes, I had the same problem, so I screwed it to the door. Mounting hardware and tools come with it.
