• The product is supposed to start shipping any day now. And the TiVo site has almost no details-- they link to the Amazon sale page. Accoring to Amazon and a Cnet report on the product announcement: this model will ome with a lifetime subscription. This makes it a reasonable deal because the purchase cost is roughly the same as the earlier model + 30 month subscription. For Cnet report, search on "TiVo goes after cable cutters with more storage, no service fee" Also search for: "TiVo Roamio OTA 1000 GB DVR: Digital Video Recorder and Streaming Media Player - Compatible with any HD digital antenna - now with no monthly service fees"

• NO... But if you really want to pay by the month then get the other model for $50 (Model: TCD846510). I have that one and a BOLT. If you want the extra storage you can use an external drive. Important note.. If you want to do 4K, you need to get the BOLT... The OTA models will not do 4K...

• I bought one of these (the 1TB model) and connected a Mini to it also using their Bridge 450 product. Never did any sign up for paying for any service, and it works just fine including TiVo service functionality. The no service charge makes a big argument for going this direction in order to recover cable costs faster.
