How would I use this for my new TV? What is its purpose? null

In order to keep the picture HD you need a cable that can handle the high data stream of HD

You can use this cord to connect a dvd player/recorder to a tv. At least that is what I used it for. It is so much easier. You just need this HDMI cord instead of the 3 cords you would have needed before (2 audio and 1 video). Both items must have an HDMI slot in them to use. It is located in the back of the items.

This would plug into the HDMI port on the back of a computer. The other end plugs into either a Cable/Sat Box or even a Blu-Ray. IF you're planning to use the TV as a monitor then you just need to plus the other end into an HDMI slot on a computer. This cable is what permits High Speed Image/Data Transfer for HD/UHD picture

To attach a blu-ray player to your TV.

To connect data sources to television or monitor devices to stream data or pictures.
