I have a TCL 4K Roku TV and we use it with an IPad. Works great!

It should, but some cables are quite finicky. You should not have to pay a large amount of money for a cable. Look at the requirements for Apple 4K TV.

I have had on several occasions, Apple TV report the cable could not play the program. The program would then start and run fine.
I have gone to "settings" and ran the HDMI test with Apple TV reporting my set up is fine and can handle the speeds needed.
