“I just bought the LG 43" smart TV. We have Centurylink / Direct TV and broadcast using our WIFI network. Do I even need this cable for installation or can we just set it up using the WIFI? Do I need a "cable box" to get their TV channels?”

No matter what you have you’ll only get the best picture from your tv with Compatible cables.

Router and cable box are connected thru Ethernet cords. I'm not sure if you need a box for their channels, I don't use direct TV but I would assume you would.
