You can, I did not have any problems. I eventually found a USB port on my TV itself. Like mine, some TV USBs have enough power output, in the build in USB, to power the stick so you don't have to look for a plug. The HDMI itself does not supply power to the stick. The plus is when the TV is turned off the stick is also turned off when being powered by the USB built into your TV..

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think it always needs to be plugged in to work. Your tv should have a USB port near the hdmi port and you can plug into that instead of the wall. I leave it plugged in all the time.
