There is a section in the instructions that tells you to turn the built in exhaust fan. It stays in one position if you have vending to the outside of your home. However, if you don't then it serves as a odor control exhaust fan (has a charcoal filter) and it keeps the bottom of the unit from getting soaked by steam.

This is not the experience we want for our customers. If the exhaust has difficulties venting, or the vent motor suction force is too weak, set the vent mode to high. The Vent Fan will only operate in low speed mode while the microwave is working.
