It is made to mount under cabinets. Because of the venting system on it I would not recommend any other use. I would look for a free standing microwave if looking for something else.

You can buy a countertop microwave oven for much less money, that will doo the same job, and take up less space than an over-the-range unit. You would also be paying for the vent fan mechanism, which you can't use if it sits on a countertop.
