“Recirculating mode It's not clear whether this microwave can be used without an outside exhaust vent? If so, what (if anything) has to be done to it prior to installation? For example does anything need to be changed or a carbon filter accessory attached? When running it in recirculation mode, will it still pull 400 CFM quietly?”

This unit can be vented to the inside and it does come with a carbon filter for use with inside venting. Mine (SMH9187ST) has never vented either well or quietly. I am not happy with the venting of this product and would recommend you stay away from Samsung as their customer service has been less than desirable. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.All you have to do is turn the fan around (instructions inside) and it comes with the charcoal filter. It works great, very powerful even though I have no external vent.
