QuestionVent or no vent?Is an external vent required, or even recommended, on models that offer recirculating air with a carbon filter?

- Answer The SMH9187ST can be set up to vent outside, or filtered air can be recirculated into the room. The charcoal filter is included, and will help to filter odors from the cooktop if you choose to set up the microwave to recirculate the air. Which way you choose to vent is based entirely on your personal preference and your kitchen layout. - Ms. Samsung

QuestionRecirculating modeIt's not clear whether this microwave can be used without an outside exhaust vent? If so, what (if anything) has to be done to it prior to installation? For example does anything need to be changed or a carbon filter accessory attached? When running it in recirculation mode, will it still pull 400 CFM quietly?

- Answer This unit can be vented to the inside and it does come with a carbon filter for use with inside venting. Mine (SMH9187ST) has never vented either well or quietly. I am not happy with the venting of this product and would recommend you stay away from Samsung as their customer service has been less than desirable. Hope this helps.

QuestionHow does microwave accomplish low powerWhen selecting less than 100% power, how does this oven do it? My current oven cycles 100% power on and off and I think this method is useless. If you set it for 2 minutes at 60% cook power, it simply cycles 100% power on and off so the power is on 60% of the time. I won't buy another oven that operates like that. I want one that actually reduces the power of the microwaves for the entire cook time.

- Answer Yes, all current Samsung over-the-range microwaves require they be mounted both to the rear wall using the included mounting bracket, as well as to a secure surface above it, which would usually be a cabinet. QuestionCan the buzzer be silenced?I want to run the microwave without waking up the house. I do not want a buzzer to sound when the cooking cycle is done. Does this or any unit have a controlable buzzer?

- Answer I’m happy to tell you that the SMH9187ST does have an ON/OFF setting for the sound. Instructions for changing this and other settings can be found on page 16 of the User Manual, under My Settings. - Ms. Samsung

QuestionDo you need to push a button before you enter the cook time?On our previous microwave, you just entered the time and pressed start. However, our current microwave requires you to push a "cook time" button before you enter the amount of time and then press the "start"button. I know this is a minor annoyance, but does this product require pushing a button before entering in the cook time?

- Answer Thank you for the question. There are a number of ways to program the SMH9187ST to cook, including one-touch Sensor Cook buttons and pre-sets, and the Cook function which enables you to adjust the power level for multi-stage cooking. Another option is to press the buttons on the number keypad to set the time then press start, like you're accustomed to doing. For more information on the many features and programming options on your SMH9187ST microwave, please refer to the User Manual which can be downloaded as a pdf file from Samsung's website for easy reference. - Ms. Samsung

- Answer The SMH9187ST is designed to be mounted under a cabinet. Not only is the top unfinished, but it also has the necessary vent openings for this type of model. Samsung does not recommend using its over-the-range microwaves on countertops. Thank you for your interest, Ms. Samsung

- Answer The cost of Delivery in the Metro area is $29.99 and if it is out of Metro it could be more, for that you have to contact the store and give them your Zip code and they can let you know. For Installation of an Over The Range Microwave it is $119.99. ie. if there is an existing microwave already there but if you need to put a plug point there it would be extra. I hope this answers your Question.

- Answer Mounting bracket is included along with a paper stencil for where to drill your mounting holes. It only came with one lag screw though. The instructions say to use at least one lag screw; i just used 4 lag screws of my own instead of the drywall anchors that were provided.

QuestionRecirculate mode on Samsung OTR microwaveDoes the microwave need to be positioned under the cabinet at a certain depth - i.e., do the top vent openings have to be clear in order for the MW to suck air from the top of the range. I've installed the MW flush with my upper cabinet and have redirected the fans according to the installation instructions but there is no air being pulled up through the microwave at all. If repositioning the MW will solve the problem i can have some sort of spacer bar installed behind - but i'm not sure that this will do the trick.

- Answer The SMH9187 and other Samsung over the range microwaves are designed to be installed under standard 12" depth cabinets so the hidden vents on the top front of the microwave are not obstructed. If the exhausted air has nowhere to go, this could impact the effectiveness of the fan. Other contributing factors could be the distance between the cooktop and the bottom of the microwave, and the placement of the cookware on the stove top. For best performance, pans should placed directly under the fan. - Ms. Samsung
