• Yes, all current Samsung over-the-range microwaves require they be mounted both to the rear wall using the included mounting bracket, as well as to a secure surface above it, which would usually be a cabinet. • the cord comes on the top of the microwave and is meant to go through a hole on the bottom of the cabinet and plug in inside the cabinet, so you need to provide a way for the cord to be plugged in without being bent, not sure if that is possible without the cabinet being there.
