The SMH9187ST can be set up to vent outside from the rear or top of the unit, or filtered air can be recirculated into the room from vents located in the front that are concealed from view. Thank you for your interest, Ms. Samsung

Almost all newer microwaves give you both options. Usually there is a panel that covers the vent you dont use.
