• The SMH9187ST can be set up to vent outside, or filtered air can be recirculated into the room. The charcoal filter is included, and will help to filter odors from the cooktop if you choose to set up the microwave to recirculate the air. Which way you choose to vent is based entirely on your personal preference and your kitchen layout. - Ms. Samsung

• not required but the buildup of moisture and food particles will occur without external vent
