QuestionRayWe bought the SMH8187STG model. It is busted and want to replace while re-using the existing mounting plate/bracket. Is the SMH9187ST and the SMH1816S compatible? (i.e. same dimensions and mount the same way with the same parts?)

QuestionInternal Vent Continually RunsWe just remodeled our kitchen and installed our brand new just out of the box SMH9187ST. (Bought it in 2010). Its been in for a week. But we only used it 2 days. Today, the internal vent that cools after microwave is used has started to continually run. It is not cooking but the light is on and the internal vent is running. How can I turn off the internal vent. Does it have anything to do with the sensor?

- Answer The microwave fan in the SMH9187 is designed to run automatically to cool the internal components, and it is not unusual for it to turn on as needed, particularly if the cooktop or oven under the microwave are being used. If yours is running continuously for no apparent reason, however, I would suggest calling 888-BEST BUY or 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you. - Ms. Samsung

QuestionNeed comparison of modelsI purchased Samsung model SMH9187ST - vent does not work - store is wanting to replace with model SMH1816S - I've tried to do a side-by-side comparison and they seem comparable but I was told that SMH1816S is a lesser model - what are the differences and why was SMH9187ST discontinued?

- Answer Thanks for the question. The SMH9187 and SMH1816 are comparable models, with both featuring a 1.8 cubic foot oven capacity, 1100-watt microwave and 400 cfm vent fan. Samsung periodically updates the product line with new designs or features. The SMH1816 is part of the 2011 line-up, and includes an updated logo and handle, as well as the new Eco Mode which helps to reduce standby power by allowing you to turn the display off when not in use. - Ms. Samsung

QuestionWhat are the exact sizes of the screws needed for the mounting on top of the microwave through the cabinet bottom?I made the mistake of buying the floor model - no directions and not one of the screws fit the top to secure to my cabinet bottom. Thanks

QuestionReplacing existing hood - width of the hood is 40 inches - is there a mount that will fit?I plan to replace my existing hood with an over the range microwave with hood. The width of the existing hood is 40 inches. Does this microwave have an attachment that will allow it to fit into this space?

- Answer The SMH9187ST is a standard 30" wide and Samsung does not make a filler kit to fit a larger space. I would suggest checking with your cabinet manufacturer or designer for alternate solutions. Thank you for your interest! Ms. Samsung

- Answer I had a tech come out and look at my microwave thinking the vent was not working out of the box. The design on Samsung microwaves is not an air tight system, meaning you will not have an effective system for venting steam and such. Not sure on the perfect height, but the manual gives you a min distance for your microwave.

Samsung over the range microwaves come with mounting hardware designed to fit each particular model.
